My wife and I have just completed our second tour with Adrian, the first being to Mount Bromo 6 months ago. Bromo was more active in the sense of having to get up super-early and sleep when we normally wake up so as to beat the crowds for astrophotography, sunrises and sunsets. It was a medium-sized group but so well-coordinated by Adrian, even out in the dark freezing rain trying to find the Milky Way. His quick-thinking and flexible planning countered a potential problem with the withdrawal of 4WD jeeps due to last-minute local issues. He instilled a sense of collective responsibility among the group so there was no single episode of \”lost\” member or time delay throughout the trip. Adrian paid attention to how every member got their shot and made photo-taking technique as simple as he could for the less experienced.
On this recently-completed trip to the backwoods of Rakhine State in Myanmar, we were clearly feeling jittery about safety and possible military conflict. Adrian went to great lengths to ensure personal safety and in providing for our different dietary needs in this religiously-sensitive area of Sittwe and Mrauk-U, centre of the Rohinggya and Arakan conflicts. This situation meant that there were almost no foreigners jostling for position and throughout the tour, we had all the scene to ourselves. Sunrise over the stupas was also thankfully devoid of hot-air balloons like those hanging over Bagan. We also interacted with displaced communities by Adrian\’s foresight to encourage us to bring and distribute small gifts as a friendship gesture, thereby strengthening rapport for street and portrait photography. A two-hour boat ride allowed us to document the fading face tattoos of Chin tribe women as this practice has been banned for a generation. Again Adrian\’s contingency planning skills came to the fore when our connecting flight out of Yangon was cancelled at last minute and we had to stay in town for 24 hours. Instead of chilling out in a hotel, Adrian arranged for an impromptu street photo session at a jetty followed by shooting sunset over a lake before dinner. On trips like these participants must be flexible and lay their trust in the leader, and on both trips for us Adrian delivered the itinerary goals and we took back great photos and more importantly wonderful memories, and made good friends.
An enjoyable trip with lots of photo opportunities under the expert guidance of Adrian.
I must admit that my recent trip to West Java was fairly relaxing and easy going as well.
Facing the Indian Ocean, the coastline of Sawarna offers fascinating and stunning scenery for
seascape photography during golden hour – the times around sunrise and sunset. However, the most
challenging task is to secure firmly the camera and tripod on rocky and undulating grounds.
I was completely overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of magnificent waterfalls in Ciletuh Geopark. Diehard photographers can spend hours at the various waterfalls to try out and experiment creative options in composition, lighting and mood at different high-low vantage points. Throughout the trip, participants were in high spirits and felt well-rewarded with many wonderful shots. Adrian, you had again done an excellent job in fulfilling our dreams of an ideal photographic trip. Thank you.
This is about my 6th trip with SgTrekker and i\’ve enjoyed all the trips – i like the comaraderie with the various groups (always punctual), fun, food and decent to luxurious accommodation, . Adrian ensures that we are well-fed with good to best local food, and he patiently ensures all our different dietary requirements. Besides bringing us to interesting and scenic places and an element of adventure, there\’s also a balance in knowing about the culture, food and people. Lake Baikal has been an adventure for me as i always wondered if i\’d survive the extreme cold. Thankfully, Adrian briefed us well, and so we were prepared and survived. This is another trip with fond memories and thanks to Adrian for his generous sharing of tips and tricks and ensuring that we all get some good shots to bring home.
I have travelled with SG Trekker several times and Adrian has been meticulous in his planning and welfare. His places are varied and cater to every genre of photography. His instruction of what gear to bring along to a certain place to shoot is concise. We always have great fun in his workshop and is quite ensured that the trip will be filled with photos returning home. He will stake a lookout for newbies and guide them along. Will I join SG Trekker again- YES.
Uzbekistan is one of lesser known countries in Central Asia which I long to visit since 2015. It is truly a beautiful country with rich historical past. Photographers will easily find many iconic hotspots and very impressive landmarks from north to south in Uzbekistan where they can indulge their passions in photography. Once again, Adrian had done a wonderful job – taking care of everyone\’s needs and comfort throughout the trip. With his expert guidance and dishing out camera\’s settings, I managed to bag some awesome and beautiful pictures. Big a thank you to you, Adrian! All team members had so much wonderful fun and laughter in the tour.
This was my first trip with SG Trekker. What a fabulous photography trip. Adrian planned the trip so we didn’t have to worry about logistics and made adjustments along the way depending on the weather so we could get the best possible photos. We all got great photos with his help and guidance of the milky way, star trails, Mt. Bromo and more. It is a tiring trip because of all the places that are planned to get the photos but it is worth it. The other photographers were wonderful and some are already planning trips together. The trip exceeded my expectations. I hope to join more trips with SG Trekker and highly recommend you take a trip with Adrian!
Fantastic planning by Adrian and the tour operator with attention to every detail. Trekkers fast and slow were well taken care of and never felt left behind. Care for not just the trekkers but the locals and environment was also of importance, which I find heartwarming. Thank you for this amazing experience!
Thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Well planned and really gave me an opportunity to learn a lot about Thailand and Photography
I had an excellent time with the tour. First time joining SGTrekker and it was great travelling with avid photographers sharing ideas. Blessed with great weather and great company, I had wonderful time at all the spots. Thankful to my guide (Adrian Loh) for sharing his experiences and selfless in making this trip a success. Will hope to be part of his future tours.
My recent visit to Lombok Island was indeed adventurous trip. Lombok, close to Bali, has many scenic spots for outdoor photography. Beaches such as Nambung, Semeti and Batu Payung are excellent locations for shooting seacapes during golden hour.
I must admit that the trek up Mount Rinjani was tough and exhausting – aching limbs and muscles. But one would be amply rewarded by the fabulous scenery at the rim of Senaru Crater. At 2641m above sea level, you get a majestic view of the entire landscape showing the mountain range, volcano and Lake Segara Anak below.
Lastly, I must thank Adrian and Dul, our Lombok guide for their patience and help during the entire trip. It was definitely a good trip that I will always remember.
The mountain scenery is fantastic, the boat ride and beautiful sunset over the waves are added bonuses. The Komodo dragons ( sighted four) are a sight to see. The adrenalin rush to your brain as you watch the animal move is something to experience. All in all, a great trip which is made even more enjoyable with a group of like-minded photographers led by a caring, efficient and thoughtful tour leader, Adrian of the Singapore Trekker. I have learnt much in the finer art to photographing not only landscapes but also people and documentary photos that tell a story. A highly recommended trip for those who are young at heart. However, you do need some legs muscles to be able to take on the trekking which I find most enjoyable when you are physically active.
